Treating incontinence

Propalin Syrup is a licensed veterinary treatment for urinary incontinence in the bitch. It is usually highly successful and the side effects are rare.

In addition, your veterinary surgeon may suggest further measures to help treatment, such as taking your dog out to urinate last thing at night or before being left alone. A weight-loss programme may be suggested if your pet is overweight.

Once your pet is stabilised, you may find you can gradually decrease the dose that is effective. However, it is rare to be able to stop treatment completely. Your veterinary surgeon will advise you on the dosage that will suit your dog and answer any questions you may have. As Propalin is a prescription only medicine you will probably need to bring your dog to the surgery for regular check-ups. Propalin is a palatable syrup and can be easily mixed with your dog’s food. For convenience, it is available in two pack sizes. Although it is
recommended that you keep Propalin in a dry place at a temperature not exceeding 25°C, it should not be stored in a refrigerator. As with all medicines, please keep out of reach of children and follow your veterinary surgeon’s advice carefully.
